Car comment appeler autrement un drame dont la parfaite communion du texte et de la musique offre un tel pouvoir de suggestion ? « Tenir l'esprit, les oreilles et les yeux dans un égal enchantement » : cette recommandation de La Bruyère ( Caractères : Les ouvrages de l'esprit ) visait le « théâtre en machines » si adulé du public à l'époque baroque.
