Cet enregistrement comprend une sélection remarquable d'arrangements de chansons folkloriques irlandaises réalisés par Beethoven, dans de nouvelles versions adaptées avec beaucoup d'imagination pour des instruments plus traditionnels que le piano, le violon et le violoncelle d'origine. A ses arrangements sont juxtposés des versions plus conventionnelles d'airs folkloriques irlandais et écossais tirés d'autres sources. Elles contribuent à mettre en évidence l'ingéniosité de Beethoven, qui sait préserver le caractère original de ces chansons folkloriques tout en leur conférant une complexité musicale supérieure.
