Ce coffret regroupe les 14 premiers albums studio de Lou Reed en solo, parus de 1972 à 1986 sous les labels RCA puis Arista. S'ajoutent dans la collection ses deux plus importants albums live : Rock'n'Roll Animal (1974) et Take No Prisoners (1978). Ne sont donc pas incluses ses oeuvres postérieures à 1986, parmi lesquelles se trouvent notamment New York (1989) et Ecstasy (2000). Le tout est accompagné d'un livre rédigé par Hal Willner.
