"Cooler Than Ice - Arctic Records And The Rise Of Philly Soul" est un coffret englobant six disques et de six 45 tours hérités du label Arctic Records fondé en 1964 par Jimmy Bishop, le directeur du programme de radio WDAS . Les cds renferment cent vingt et un morceaux de Soul, de Funk ou de R&B; et permettent de retrouver l'âme de Philadephie des années soixante. Côté interprètes, on retrouve sur de nombreux morceaux la chanteuse phare de la maison, Barbara Mason ainsi que d'autres comme Kenny Gamble, Dee Dee Barnes, Della Humphrey, The temptones ou Kenny Humber. Les six vinyles présentent douze titres supplémentaires créés à partir de bandes récemment trouvées dans les caves du label Jamie Guyden. Un livret de cinquante pages avec des notes détaillées, des photos uniques et des annotations des pistes faites par l'historien de la musique Bill Dahl accompagne également ce bel objet. (CL)
