Couvrant la période 1949 - 1960, de ses premiers succès avec le Maxin Trio à sa signature chez Atlantic, cette triple compilation montre à quel point Ray Charles fit avancer la musique noire américaine, brassant les genres, du Gospel rural au Jazz big band, le touche à tout qu'il était tombait les frontières et les clivages. Les deux premiers CD sont consacrés à ses productions Rhythm & Blues tandis que le troisième est principalement consacré à son travail de claviériste (orgue et piano) et d'arrangeur. (PTH)
