Le jazz est un monde d'hommes. Et pourtant, que serait-il advenu de tous ces héros sans la présence vivifiante des ladies? Au sein des big bands, pendant l'ère fastueuse du swing, les vocalistes en fourreau de soie ou en corsages vaporeux ont dû jouer des coudes pour revendiquer leur statut et trouver leur place. Il leur a fallu beaucoup de courage, d'intelligence et d'abnégation, parfois de malice et d'audace, pour déjouer les pièges d'un univers masculin où le seul rôle dévolu aux femmes était celui de l'ornementation...
