Enregistrements de terrain effectués par différentes personnes entre 1952 et 1983, mais datant essentiellement du début des années 1970. Le disque a été compilé par Artur Simon dans le cadre de la collection du Musée de Berlin. Il rassemble des musiques des peuples Eipo (Eipomek, langue Mek), Ok, Yali, Dani et Moni habitant dans les régions montagneuses de la Nouvelle Guinée occidentale, Irian Jaya, faisant partie de l'Indonésie. Evénememt discographique important puisque ce coffret de six CD offre plus de six heures de musiques de peuples quasi inconnus et inexistant sur disques jusqu'alors. Certains de ces enregistrements ont eu lieu juste avant la dévastation de ces villages par de terribles tremblements de terre, suivis de l'arrivée des missionnaires américains et d'un grave bouleversement de la culture. Le répertoire est composé de musiques et chants traditionnels animant des festivals de danse, des cérémonies de guérison, des lamentations, des chants individuels et des chants religieux chrétiens.
